Jubilee lawmakers issue worrying threat to Uhuru

President Uhuru has until February 2 to respond.

Led by assembly majority leader Halkano Konso of Uran Ward, the team, which held a consultative meeting on Sunday, quipped that it will pass the motion to protest the latest decision by President Uhuru to appoint Mr Yatani to cabinet.

"The people of Marsabit are happy with President Uhuru Kenyatta for picking a Cabinet secretary from our county but we are not happy with his choice," Mr Konso told a press briefing on Sunday.

The new demand to president Uhuru comes barely a week before the defiant Nasa leadership is pushing for dialogue with the president, lest the team will swear in Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka as People’s President and Deputy President respectively.

Last week on Friday, in a statement signed by Governor Mohamud Ali, Senator Abubakar Godana Hargura, Nominated Senator Rev Canon Naomi Wako, Woman Rep Safia Sheikh Adan and Saku MP Ali Dido Rasso, the leaders rejected the appointment of Mr Ukur to the CS position.

The leaders accused Mr Yatani of instigating divisive politics of exclusion, cultivation of suspicion, fear, and mistrust among communities, which they stated is what has thrived his career.

"Such politics is toxic to our national integration and cohesion and appointing Ukur would, therefore, reward his efforts to create ethnic partition and social disharmony in Marsabit," they stated.

The leaders also revealed that his suitability was in bad light as he was embroiled in mega corruption scandals, misuse of public and abuse of office. The nominee, Pulse Live has learned, is currently under investigation by the EACC.

"This appointment is tantamount to celebrating impunity and divisive politics, it is unmerited and does not advance the interest and the aspirations of Kenyans," part of the statement read.

In March 2017, the former Marsabit County governor ditched Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee. He would later lose the seat, four months later.

Mr Ukur earlier said that he had joined Frontier Alliance Party (FAP) which he said was a national party drawing leaders from the North Eastern, Central, Rift Valley and the coast region.
