Matiangi explains the main reason why the Government deported Miguna Miguna

Miguna was on Tuesday night ejected from the country and put on a KLM flight from Nairobi.

Matiangi through a statement declared that Miguna was not a Kenyan citizen and that is why he ordered for his deportation under the powers vested by section 43 (1) of the Kenyan Citizenship and Immigration Act 2011.

National Interest

"I hereby declare that Miguna Miguna who is not a citizen and whose presence in Kenya is contrary to national interest, be removed from Kenya to his country of origin Canada," the statement read.

Miguna was dramatically put into a KLM flight departing Nairobi for Amsterdam minutes to 10pm on Tuesday night.

According to NEXUS, "The official government newsroom" later tweeted: ‘‘Miguna is headed home. The court ordered he gets released and the interior ministry obeyed the orders and even assisted him with a flight ticket home".

Denounced citizenship

According to the Interior Ministry Spokesman Mwenda Njoka, Miguna denounced his Kenyan citizenship years back and never bothered to reclaim it.

“Mr Miguna denounced his Kenyan citizenship years back, acquired Canadian citizenship and never bothered to reclaim Kenyan citizenship in the legally prescribed manner neither did he disclose that he had another country’s citizenship despite being a lawyer who should have known better,” Mwenda said on Twitter.

However, Miguna on Wednesday shot back at the government while in Amsterdam denying that he had ever renounced his Kenyan citizenship reiterating that he will never do that and he had never even contemplated it.

"The constitution is crystal clear: no one can invalidate or purport to cancel the citizenship of a Kenyan born citizen. So, Matiang’i has no authority - and I didn’t request him - to “take me home” as he shamelessly claimed," Miguna said.
