Mwai Kibaki breaks silence, issues warning message

"It is upon the current leadership to carry the burden of inspiring the change"

In an open letter published on the Nation, Kibaki called on all Africans, particularly those in leadership, to be more committed towards water conservation.

The retired President warned that water would continue to cause disruptions through droughts, floods, and other calamities unless the continent developed a strategic and insightful strategy for water management.

“It is upon the current leadership to carry the burden of inspiring the change demanded in managing our deplorable water situation if history is to judge us kindly. That is our solemn duty to the future generations,”the retired President.

The former President issued the statement in his capacity as Unesco’s Special Envoy for Water in Africa.

Kenya is one of the nations that have had serious water challenges including flooding, prolonged droughts, inadequate water for domestic use, among other problems.
