Raila Odinga to unveil new team to push for reforms

Move comes in the backdrop of pressure to cancel the handshake deal with President Kenyatta

Sources privy to the details also revealed that the opposition leader will include representatives from NASA affiliate parties, Ford Kenya, Amani National Congress and Wiper Party.

It is not clear who among Odinga’s allies will be included in the team as some of his allies have differed with him over the famous handshake and called for its nullification claiming that the opposition got a raw deal.

Lawyer Paul Mwangi who was appointed to spearhead the “Building Bridges” initiative confirmed that plans are at advanced stage.

“We are lining up a lot of activities to realise the nine-point plan because we have a broad-based agenda to fulfill. You will be seeing a lot of activities in the coming weeks.” Mwangi said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is also expected to nominate half of the team to be led by Mr Martin Kimani and Paul Mwangi.

Shortly after launching the team, Odinga will fly off to Kakamega to deliver the key note address during the 5 devolution conference.

Odinga has had significant increase in his engagement with the state following the handshake with President Kenyatta that saw the two leaders pledge to unite Kenya.

Last week, he was the official state representative at the funeral of Winnie Mandela and held high level talks with state representatives.
