NASA's new plan to stall the appointment of Uhuru's new cabinet

NASA's new plot comes when Uhuru and Ruto are finalising their cabinet list.

The NASA National Resistance Movement's (NRM) parliamentary wing announced it will not submit its list of members to the Committee of Appointment of the National Assembly.

The committee chaired by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, is responsible for vetting of Cabinet secretaries after they are nominated for appointment by the President.

Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto are in the advance stages of preparing a new look cabinet that will spearhead their executive and development agenda for their second term in office.

The latest move by NASA is seen as a plot to delay Kenyatta's appointment of his new cabinet line-up.

According to ODM Chairman John Mbadi, the move comes after the NASA meeting last week in Machakos where it was resolved that the coalition will not recognise the Kenyatta Presidency in what was termed as the Maanzoni Declaration.

“We do not want to be party to the appointment of CSs because we do not recognise the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta as President. This is the reason why we will not participate in the formation of this committee and the possibility of vetting his CSs," Mbadi stated when he spoke to The Nation.

In the list, Suba South John Mbadi (ODM) has been appointed as Minority Leader with Suna East MP Junet Mohammed (ODM) proposed as the Minority Whip.

Mohamed in parliament will be deputised by Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa of Ford Kenya while Mbadi will be deputised by Kathiani MP Robert Mbui of Wiper.

In the Senate, NASA has listed Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula (Ford Kenya) as Minority Leader and will be deputised by his Siaya counterpart James Orengo (ODM) with Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior (WIper) named as Minority Whip.

Kilonzo will be deputised by Petronila Were of the Amani National Congress.
