Prominent government officials and business people who are on trial over the second NYS scandal got their first win in court after the magistrate granted their requests on a number of issues.
The suspects wanted the court to compel prison authorities to ensure they are allowed access to their medical treatment, including visits by their doctors.
In response, Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti directed that prison authorities would be held liable for any infringement on the rights of the remandees.
In another submission the high-profile individuals who are charged with various corruption charges, sought the Magistrate to allow them to follow court proceedings without handcuffs - the defence team had claimed that the cuffs were affecting blood flow for some of the suspects.
They were also granted the request with Magistrate Ogoti directions that there would be no handcuffs once the suspects were seated.
