Larry Madowo & Linus Kaikai forced to sleep at NTV offices

Flying squad officers were spotted outside Nation Centre

NTV Managing editor Linus Kaikai and two of his reporters - Larry Madowo and Ken Mijungu, were advised not to leave the Nation Centre after the company security guards got wind of the plot to arrest the three journalists.

As the information spread, numerous local and foreign journalists, as well as human rights activists visited the NTV newsroom to show solidarity with their embattled colleagues.

Kaikai is reportedly wanted over a statement he issued as the Kenya Editors Guild chairman, accusing the government of muzzling the media.

It is not yet clear why Mijungu and Madowo are wanted.

However, the two reporters were actively involved in news production on the day NASA leader Raila Odinga was sworn in.

On Wednesday, Interior Coordination CS Fred Matiang'i announced that security agencies were involved in an investigation "including but not limited to media employees", for their role in Tuesday’s ‘swearing-in’ of Odinga at Uhuru Park in Nairobi.

Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang was arrested a few hours after Matiang'i announcement.

At 8am on Thursday morning, the three journalists moved to court through the company lawyer Seku Owino, seeking to have an anticipatory bill that would prevent the police from arresting them.
