The 8 men advising Uhuru on his latest tough leadership style

Tough men's club

Kenyatta appears to have heeded a view expressed by Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe in 2017 - calling upon the President to be 'benevolent dictator" in his second term.

The Star on Friday reported that the President has been relying on the advise of eight men who have a ruthlessly pragmatic approach to governance.

Kenyatta's deputy William Ruto leads the pack of the President's closest advisors while Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has recently joined Kenyatta's inner circle.

ICT CS Joe Mucheru is also reported to be a member of the "tough men's club", which also include Chief of Defence Forces Samson Mwathethe, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, and the the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Philip Kameru.

Others are Attorney General Githu Muigai, Kenyatta's private secretary Jomo Gecaga, and the new State House comptroller Kinuthia Mbugua.

Mbugua, a former Commandant of the Administration Police, is reputed to be a stern administrator who has hugely contributed in President Kenyatta's changing leadership style.

A signal of the growing authoritarian approach in Kenyatta's second term has been the detention and controversial deportation of lawyer Miguna Miguna.

Matiangi. Kameru, Mucheru and some other senior government officials made the decision to deport Miguna.
