Siaya Senator James Orengo on Tuesday appeared on an interview with Citizen TV to explain the circumstances under which he was elected to replace Moses Wetangula as Senate Minority Leader.

During the interview, Orengo was asked on whether he had any role in influencing his own election or the ouster of Wetangula.

The Siaya Senator responded that he had not been involved and was not aware of the the process that led to his election as Minority Leader, terming the events as a culmination of "good things that have happened to him since last year".

"Something has happened in my life since 2017. I managed to get into Senate even without campaigning as much as other Senators," Orengo stated.

Contradiction

However, the minutes of the initial attempt to remove the Ford Kenya Leader from his senate position appear to contradict Orengo's statement.

Last week on Thursday, 20 ODM Senators, including Orengo, unanimously voted out Wetangula as Minority leader and proposed the Siaya Senator to replace him.

Orengo's election to the office, however, was halted after Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka noted that the minutes nominating the new Minority Leader should have come from a NASA senate PG and not from ODM.

Accusing finger

The Senators later retreated under the NASA banner and made the second vote on Tuesday.

The Standard reported that Orengo is one of the Senators who participated in the Tuesday vote that sealed Wetangula's vote.

NASA co-principals Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula, and Kalonzo Musyoka have pointed an accusing finger at Orengo as the mastermind of the plot to replace the Bungoma Senator form the lucrative parliamentary position.

Musyoka has since then requested the Siaya Senator to reject the new position for the sake of unity in the NASA coalition.
