When self-declare National Resistance Movement (NRM) General Miguna Miguna was held at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for almost 8 hours after landing on Kenyan soil, Opposition leader Raila Odinga made his way to the Airport to "salvage" the situation.
Odinga’s presence at JKIA hit headlines with many believing that the former Prime Minister would turn things around for Miguna to be finally allowed into the country.
But this was never so. After a closed-door meeting at the Immigration Department, Kenyans saw an angry and disappointed Odinga rush to his vehicle, refusing to talk to journalists who were still in the dark.

What Raia did at JKIA
On Tuesday morning, Odinga’s cousin and former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo brought to light details of the discussion that transpired inside JKIA.
Speaking during NTV’s AM Live show, Mr Midiwo mentioned that he was informed that the NASA leader tried to convince Miguna to produce his Canadian-passport so that he could gain entry into the country to no success.
According to the former legislator, Mr Odinga assured the Canadian-based lawyer that it would be better to enter the country through the legal procedure then sort out issues surrounding his citizenship and deportation in court.
“I was told that Odinga tried to tell Miguna “Get in so that we sort everything while you are inside the country”,” Odinga’s cousin said.
Impunity
Midiwo described Miguna’s hard stance and attempted forceful entry into the country as impunity noting that his lawyers ought to have advised him properly.
“We are being treated to impunity everywhere,” he said.
At the same time, Midiwo maintained that the Government was also wrong in disobeying court orders issued on Miguna’s citizenship and deportation cases.

On Monday, 26 March, 2018 Miguna arrived in Kenya at 2.30Pm but was detained at the Immigration Department because he did not possess a Kenyan passport.
He was asked to surrender his Canadian passport then apply for a Visa but he refused.
According to Miguna, applying for the Visa as a tourist would restrict him from conducting his political activities in the country.
After a stand-off of more than 8 hours, a battalion of police officers bundled the fiery lawyer into an Emirates flight in a bid to deport him to Dubai.
The Immigration officers claimed that Miguna was an undocumented visitor who cannot be allowed in the country.

However, Miguna refused to board the plane and stood at the door restricting any movement. Eventually, the captain locked the plane’s door and Miguna was left at JKIA’s runway.

After 72 hours at JKIA, Miguna was forcefully bundled onto an Emirates EK 722 Dubai-bound flight at around 11pm on Thursday, 28 March, 2018.
He claimed that he was drugged by a battalion of police officers before the deportation.
