Way forward on Raila-Uhuru deal to be given by Thursday next week

Event comes at a time when the fate of the Raila-Uhuru handshake deal hangs in the balance

The two are expected to unveil the road map to achieve the nine key issues that they outlined after the 09 March handshake.

On Saturday, the team tasked with steering the deal, led by Amb. Martin Kimani and Lawyer Paul Mwangi met to put final touches on the road map that will be released by Thursday this coming week.

Citizen TV reported that “roadmap will be unveiled by Thursday next week, and will involve a series of conversations on the 9-point agenda that Kenyatta and Odinga identified in resolving long standing national challenges”.

At the center of the road map are corruption, ethnic antagonism and competition, lack of national ethos, safety and security, inclusivity, divisive elections, devolution, shared prosperity and responsibilities and rights.

Amb. Kimani divulged that both Uhuru and Raila had been extensively involved in developing a broad based national dialogue agenda bringing on board all stakeholders.

The two leaders are expected to grace the event and lead the efforts to unite the nation following last year’s hotly contested polls.

Next week’s event comes at a time when the opposition boss is facing growing resistance from his allies and supporters who feel that the deal is of no importance following the dramatic detention and deportation of opposition activist Miguna Miguna.
