Details of Raila’s phone call to Uhuru that failed to save Miguna

Why Raila could not save the General

Odinga had made his way to JKIA on Monday evening after immigration officials declined to clear Miguna into the country – despite numerous court orders on the same.

The NASA leader was not successful in convincing immigration officials to free the self-styled General – with sources indicating that he resorted to calling President Kenyatta for intervention.

The Standard on Wednesday quoted several of its sources confirming that Odinga and Kenyatta spoke on Monday night, even there were different accounts on how the head of state responded.

One source reported that the former Prime Minister could not get through the President’s direct line but was later able to do speak to him after making a call to a senior State House operative.

"As if someone was monitoring the conversation, immediately Raila ended the call, a team of plainclothes policemen arrived and violently bundled Miguna out from where he was standing, in full glare of the lawyers and Raila himself," the source stated.

Another source claimed that President Kenyatta termed the Miguna detention “a small matter” and promised to have it sorted.

At around midnight, Miguna was violently grabbed by nearly forty plain-clothed officers, as Odinga watched in frustration.

He later left Terminal 2 where Miguna had been held and resignedly walked to his waiting vehicle. He did not comment on the events that had unfolded at JKIA.
