US sends strong message to Kenyans after Supreme Court ruling

Trump's administration becomes the first one to comment on the historic ruling.

In a statement by US ambassador to Kenya and signed by several Heads of Mission including the European Union, United Kingdom and Canada, the Trump's administration said the court's independent review had demonstrated Kenya’s resilient democracy and commitment to the rule of law.

Godec congratulated Kenyans for their patience and confidence as the legal case ran its course.

He challenged IEBC to now begin preparing for a new presidential poll within 60 days as stipulated in the Constitutiona nd to ensure that they are free, fair, credible, and peaceful.

"All electoral processes can be improved, and we will continue to support Kenya’s institutions in this important work.  The transparent legal process and the parties’ respect for the Court’s decision reflect the strength of Kenya’s democracy," the statement read in part.

Godec reassured America's support to Kenya and their desire to deepen the two countries' partnership.

"At this historic time, we stand with all Kenyans as they support and reaffirm their democracy, which is an example for Africa and the world," the statement said.
