'Ruto si bibi yako' comment lands Jubilee MP in trouble

MP issued with tough warning

Ichung'wa sensationally warned Odinga that Ruto "was not his wife" and could therefore not question the Deputy President's whereabouts.

"Let me tell you Deputy President, only two people have the right to question you where you are going. One is God because you are a prayerful person and two is Rachael Ruto. Raila should know that he is not your wife," Ichung'wa stated.

The fact that the controversial remarks were made at a church service has caused a social media uproar about the Kikuyu MP's conduct and several other Mt Kenya politicians who are supportive of Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.

"If I can remember, back then a politician could only address gathering outside the church. And even then they were very careful not to send wrong message lest they earn the wrath of the church leadership,"Nyoro stated.

Lawyer and online opinion shaper Wahome Thuku, said Ichung'wa and his colleagues were undermining President Uhuru Kenyatta's reconciliation initiative with Raila Odinga.

"Its Uhuru who called Raila Odinga for the negotiations leading to the handshake. Its Uhuru who shook Raila's hand. Intact the meeting was only attended by their relatives and one or two confidants not the battalion of busybodies. This is between Raila and Uhuru. And by the way its Uhuru who said Ruto anatangatanga," Thuku opined.

Another blogger, Polycarp Hinga was more blunt, "Whatever they are being given at Karen must be very potent to make someone I considered a sober leader to stand in church and say 'Deputy President sio bibi ya Raila'."
