Matiang'i chunga usiwekewe sumu kwa chakula - ODM MP warns CS

You have to be careful Bwana Waziri.

Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati has warned Interior CS Dr Fred Matiangi of the dangers associated with fighting dealers of contraband sugar and betting machines, adding that he risks being poisoned via food.

Speaking in function in which the CS presided over the burning of thousands of gambling machines and shisha bongs in Dagoretti on Monday afternoon, the ODM MP affirmed that the CS’ life could be in danger for fighting unscrupulous dealers in the country.

“Na Bwana Waziri uchunge usiwekewe sumu kwa chakula juu ya hii kazi,” the MP told CS Matiang’i during the function.

Loosely translated: “Mr Cabinet Secretary, please take care that your food is not poisoned on account of the work you are doing.”

The MP warned the Cabinet Secretary after dozens of businesspeople in the affected areas went to court and obtained a court order seeking to stop the operation that saw over 1,100 gambling machines nabbed and destroyed in a single day. He remarked that the CS should be careful as the cartels are unhappy with his work.

“We are ruining our children. Twelve-year-olds are the ones who go to play these games. It is going against the president’s goal of 100 per cent transition into secondary schools,” Dr Matiang’i would instead tell his critics.

In the recent past, CS Matiang’i has led a sting of operations - which have since spread nationwide – to nab and destroy substandard goods and gambling machines. Hundreds to thousands of bags of sugar marked ‘unsafe for human use’ have been nabbed in Nairobi, Kitui, Meru and Kitale, with businessmen who were found in possession facing charges.
