Nairobi governor Mike Sonko caused a stir after he interrupted Deputy President William Ruto’s speech in front of President Uhuru Kenyatta during the launch of the national tree planting exercise.
Sonko had apparently been skipped in the protocol thwarted attempts to undermine him, stamping his authority and addressing those who attended the event at Moi forces Accademy in Nairobi.
“The State House Program is very clear. After the National Anthem, the governor of Nairobi is supposed to speak. I was supposed to invite Environment CS Keriako Tobiko who would then invite the DP.” Sonko said amidst cheers from his supporters.
“Hii mambo ya kuniaundermine tafadhalini tuacheni. Sote tunaserve serikali moja. Rais hajadisband county government ya Nairobi. Kwa hivyo heshima kidogo. (Please stop undermining me. We all serve in the same government. The president has not disbanded the Nairobi county government),” he added.

The initiative under the theme ‘Panda Miti, Penda Kenya’ seeks to raise Kenya’s forest cover from the current 6.99% to the globally recommended 10%.
