The Kenyan government has given Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga a formal notice to resign his position as the Chairman of the Nyeri KNUT branch.
KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion has also been formally notified that he will have to resign from his union position.
On Wednesday, the CS in charge of East African Community (EAC), Labour and Social Protection, gazetted several unionists as a state officer which automatically bars them from holding a position in a worker’s union.
Others who are expected to lose their positions in the trade union movements include KUPPET’s Omboko Milemba, and Tom Odege.
Sossion was nominated to the National Assembly by ODM while Milemba was elected as Emuhaya MP in the August 8 election.
Odege is also serving in Parliament as the MP for Nyatike.
Kandie gazetted five other union officials who have been elected or nominated to state offices.
The Constitution of Kenya bars state officers from holding any other gainful employment.
