Details have emerged of a special elite squad put in place to carry out arrest of National Super Alliance (NASA) politicians linked with the controversial ‘swearing in’ of Raila Odinga as the ‘People’s President’.
According to the Nation, a team of 20 officers drawn from the flying squad and the Special Crimes Unit has been put in place to carry out the crackdown with new strategies being put in place.
A confidential source revealed to the newspaper that the team has obtained house plans of various NASA leaders to help them when conducting raids to arrest them for breaking the law.
This evokes memories of when police raided the home of businessman Jimmy Wanjigi but failed to arrest him owing to the complex design of his home as his whereabouts remained unknown.
An officer involved in the operations revealed that the move is so as to ensure that “these people should not live in comfort while causing trouble”.
The team also intends to get search warrants and authority to apply force whenever necessary during their raids.
During the arrest of Miguna Miguna, the self declared NRM general alleged that the police used an explosive device during the raid at his home.
The elite flying squad is currently being reconstituted but multiple sources have revealed that it is currently led by Said Kiprotich and an Inspector by the name Njoroge.
On Friday, Inspector General (IG) Joseph Boinet made it clear that the crackdown on errant opposition politicians will continue.
In anticipation of their arrest, NASA leaders went to court and obtained anticipatory bails to prevent their arrests.
