Conspicuously absent was Tanzanian President John Magufuli who was represented by his deputy.

Several heads of state and were in attendance on Tuesday at the Safaricom Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi to witness the second inauguration of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

One by one the heads arrived in style to a thundering applause at the 60,000-seater stadium that was filled to capacity. Those in attendance included Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni, Rwanda's Paul Kagame, Botswana's Ian Khama, Zambia's Edgar Lungu, South Sudan's Salva Kiir, Gabon's Ali Bongo, Namibia's Hage Geingob.

Others were Djibouti President Ismail Omar, Somalia's Mohamed Abdulahi. Deputy President William Ruto and his wife Rachel arrived at 11:19am to a rapturous applause.

Conspicuously absent was Tanzanian President John Magufuli who was represented by his Vice President. The crowd at intervals chanted Jubilee slogans as they were entertained by melodious tunes from the Maroon Commandos.

Military choppers were seen hovering above the heavily fortified stadium which already had a massive security presence strict on protocol for all those present.

The loudest of applause of the day was reserved for President Uhuru Kenyatta who arrived on board the military commander land-rover at exactly 11:43 am accompanied by the Chief of Defence Forces Samson Mwathethe.
