Trouble for Martha Karua after challenging Waiguru's win

Karua made the decision to contest Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru's win following the nullification of the presidential results.

Karua together with her lawyer Gitobu Imanyara, had on Tuesday September 5, filed a petition at the Kerugoya Law Courts in Kirinyaga County.

According to the NARC Kenya Party leader, the gubernatorial results were not free, fair and credible claiming that her agents were locked out of the tallying centers and voters were bribed during the tallying of the elections.

"We disputed the counting and tallying and demanded a recount while the process was on going which IEBC denied,” she said.

Karua, after the Supreme Court ruling, announced that she would be moving to the Court, sentiments that her running mate Gachoki Gitari echoed.

“It is true Karua will be suing the IEBC and Waiguru over the election. There will be no retreat,” Gitari had said.

Karua has also sued the IEBC as well as the Kirinyaga County returning officer Seki Lempaka.

Anne Waiguru garnered 161,373 votes against Martha Karua's 122,091 votes.
