In a statement, the former Prime Minister condemned the police for using excessive force alluding that they were only acting on instructions issued by the Jubilee Government.
“The world has today witnessed the use of unprecedented and unnecessary brutality by the Jubilee regime directed at a mass humanity. The Jubilee regime used teargas, water canons armed militia and live bullets to disperse supports of NASA, in the process killing several and maiming many.
“We hold President Uhuru Kenyatta responsible for this absurd and unfortunate turn of events. The President has the blood of innocent Kenyans on his hand,” Odinga’s statement reads in part.

He insisted that his supporters who turned out in large number to welcome him home were unarmed and peaceful during the procession which started from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The NASA principal went on to criticize the Jubilee Government for using billions of shillings to arm the police with the sole motive of using force against innocent Kenyans, who he said were tired of Kenyatta’s regime.
"We condemn, equally strongly, the waste of taxpayers’ money on unnecessary war by security forces and militia against innocent and law-abiding citizens by a regime that is deep in debt even as it continues to borrow massive amounts of money which is grappling the economy," he said.
Odinga described Mr. Kenyatta’s Government as illegitimate highlighting that Kenyans will not accept to be plunged into a dictatorship. He likened Kenyatta’s regime to that of embattled Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe.
"Kenyans are aware that to establish a dictatorship, all that a regime need is a brutal police and a cowed citizenry. They are refusing to be cowed,” Odinga said.

He sent his heartfelt condolences to the families whose relatives were shot dead during the procession which turned chaotic when police tried to repulse the mammoth crowd.
