Plans are underway for a major reshuffle in the Cabinet that will weed out those adversely featured in corruption and bring in new faces.

According to the Sunday Standard, the reshuffle is informed by the recent unity between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga hence the need to have a cabinet that will unite the country across the political divide and represent the face of Kenya.

This time round, the paper reports, Odinga has had a major role in the reshuffle in what is expected to see some of his allies make a debut in cabinet.

Among those expected to be shown the door are those who fail a mandatory vetting exercise instituted by the president including being subjected to lie-detector tests and investigations by multiple agencies.

A well-placed source at State House revealed that the President “gets daily intelligence that includes cases of corruption. He will soon act on them”.

The local daily quoted a source privy to the details confirming that “those who fail the vetting will stand suspended. I expect this exercise to be concluded before the start of the new financial year. You will hear of other tougher actions in the days to come”.Four cabinet secretaries are among those whose careers are hanging in the balance after reportedly being mentioned adversely in corruption scandals and after meeting the president over the same.

The reshuffle comes in the wake of multi-billion scandals that have rocked the Jubilee administration as President Kenyatta seeks to cement his legacy in his final term.

A leaked letter from Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua to Director Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti gave the clearest hint yet that the President is keen on weeding out corrupt elements from his administration and bringing them to justice.

The letter read in part that “I cannot emphasize enough the need for thorough investigations in these cases. Investigate and question anyone involved irrespective of rank or level”.
