Uhuru issues new directive after receiving KCSE results from Matiang’i

Matiang’i said the results are showing a normal curve

President Kenyatta directed Matiang’i to work with the Ministry of Health and ensure all the three million secondary school students are provided with health insurance through the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

The policy is expected to take effect from January 2018.

The Head of State further called on Matiang’i and KNEC Chairman Prof George Magoha to immediately institutionalise the reforms made in the education sector to solidify the achievement that have been achieved in the past two years.

Regarding cheating in schools, Kenyatta asked the Education Ministry to work with the Attorney General and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to expedite the prosecution of more than 700 teachers implicated in the vice.

He added that the ministry should reward teachers who showed high performance and at the same time carry out severe punishment to those implicated in exam irregularities.
