Raila's silence on the NYS scandal attracts backlash from his supporters

Opposition chief Raila Odinga has been involved in a flurry of activities even as the public questions his deafening silence on the NYS scandal and many others that have seen the public lose billions of shillings.

Odinga who has been vocal in the fight against corruption, unearthing mega scandals and keeping the Jubilee administration on its toes has been remarkably silent, instead channeling his attention to other issues and has thus attracted a backlash from a section of Kenyans.

As the magnitude of the NYS scandal and the billions lost seeped through to the public and senior government officials sent packing, the opposition chief was away in London.

While in London, Odinga received the Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts (BEFFTA) global award for his struggle for better governance.

Straight from receiving the BFFTA award in recognition for his fight for good governance, Odinga jetted into the country on Wednesday where the public was getting to terms with a multi-billion scandal.

Yesterday, Odinga met a delegation of ODM leaders in his office and held deliberations on the unity initiative.

Odinga later took to Facebook, stating that “A section The ODM Party Leaders called on me this afternoon and we had discussions regarding the Reconciliation Initiative and other matters affecting our beloved nation”.

As the public was up in arms over NYS and NCPB scandals and questioning Odinga’s silence, the former premier was attending the Legislative Conference in Mombasa where he urged MCA’s to stick to their legislative and oversight role instead of trying to take over the roles of County executives.

On Saturday, the former premier was in Western Kenya where he attended the burial of Margaret Shiundu, mother in law to Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

Meanwhile, a public protest is scheduled for 31 May 2018 to compel the government and other state agencies to take decisive action to bring those implicated in the scandal to justice.
