The internal wrangles in Jubilee have taken a new twist after it emerged that close allies of Deputy President William Ruto have registered a political party which they hope to use in the event that the situation in Jubilee does not improve.

Registrar of Political parties Lucy Ndung’u on Tuesday confirmed that United Green Party (UGP) and Grand Dream Development Party (GDDP) have recently been issued with certificates of registration.

The Nation and the Standard separately quoted their sources who confirmed that the process of registration was coordinated by Rift Valley politicians who are close to Ruto.

Some of the MPs reportedly visited Ndung’u’s offices to finalise with the registration.

Vocal Nandi Senator Simon Cherargei, another insider in Ruto’s camp, has also gone public on the plans to form a new party ahead of a mass exit from Jubilee.

“We are thinking of a new vehicle ahead of 2022. We cannot work with saboteurs, we cannot work with those who think they can block DP’s 2022 bid. We can’t work with our enemies,” Cherargei stated.

The Registrar of Political Parties has already explained that it is impossible for URP to break away from Jubilee until the period of five years lapses.

“When parties agreed to merge/fold, there is a clause which bars them from using the names or symbols of the former parties until after five years lapse,” she said.
