Kwale county commissioner Kutswa Olaka confirmed the incident

“We lost two officers in the incident and two riffles were stolen from them, right now as we are speaking we have already dispatch a  combined  effort from our security officers  who are on the ground pursuing those criminals and we cannot rest until we arrest them” Mr. Olaka said.

Kwale governor, Salim Mvurya confirmed and condemned the incident and urged the residents to stay calm as police pursue the attackers.

“At around 10am it was reported to me that this ACK church in Ukunda was attacked by four gangsters who shot at the two police officers who guard this church,  the two officers were rushed to palm beach hospital  and when they arrived I was there but we had already lost one officer, the doctors tried to save the other officer and transferred him to Mombasa  but on the way he unfortunately also died” he said.

“As a result of the shooting there was general panic  from the members of this church  and therefore most of them  were trying to jump over the perimeter wall and we have quite a number of people who  are nursing different injuries”

“As the county government we want to lead this county in condemning the attack , this attack was clearly   targeted at the police officers since the attackers immediately flee after shotting the officers, my call is that this is a unique incident therefore I would ask the Wananchi to be calm  so that we allow the security  organs to  be able to pursue  the attackers”
