Obama's grandmother to continue enjoying state security long after he leaves office

Sarah Onyango Obama, the grandmother of outgoing United States president, Barack Obama will continue to receive 24 hour state security even after Obama has left office the government has said.

 

Siaya County Administration Police Commandant, Ben Abuga said Mama Sarah home would remain a protected area and those seeking to visit will continue to be vetted by police stationed outside her compound.

Ben revealed that the current security arrangement will remain in placed unless the government said otherwise and order him to redeploy the officers.

The government accorded mama Sarah the VIP treatment way in 2008 after Barack Obama made history by becoming the first black president of the United States

Deputy County Commissioner of Alego Usonga, Joseph Sawe added that they will also be visiting the Obama Matriach soon to check how she was fairing.

“We are going to visit Mama Sarah next week to find out how she is coping with news of her grandson’s exit from the White House,” Standard Digital reported

Before her status changed, Mama Sarah was but a humble woman who sold vegetables in the dusty Kogelo market.

Her home had no fence nor a gate and she had to do without electricity and piped water.

Things however took a turn for the better, in 2006 after her grandson; Obama run and won the Illinois Senate seat and began exhibiting interest of running for the top seat in the world’s most powerful country.

Suddenly local and international journalists, tourists and researchers streamed to her little house daily, some requesting interviews other photo sessions.

Within no time her profile rose to international acclaim, along with it however her privacy disappeared and her security became a matter of concern.

Since coming to the limelight, Mama Sarah has used her fame to promote education and fight social vices in her community.

Mama Sarah was awarded a United Nations award in 2015 Washington for her work in promoting education among children in her village.

The Mama Sarah Obama Foundation is a non-profit organization that runs education programs for children and raises funds for charitable projects, such as clean water and a health clinic in the village.

Obama referred to Mama Sarah as “Granny” in his bestselling memoir Dreams from My Father and met with her and other extended family members during a 2015 presidential visit to Kenya.

Dreams from my father a memoir exploring his Kenyan heritage netted Obama a whopping $6.8 million, according to Forbes.
