Kenyan Premier League bigwigs Gor Mahia and Ulinzi Stars were kicked out of the 2017 GOtv Shield Cup competition over the weekend.

Gor Mahia fell 5-6 to Bandari in post-match shootouts after a 1-1 draw in regulation time at Thika Sub county Stadium. Cosmas Juma scored for Bandari before new signing Boniface Omondi equalized for K’Ogalo to take the match to the penalties where the Green Army suffered the defeat.

A day earlier, Ulinzi Stars suffered a 1-0 defeat against KPL counterparts Sony Sugar at Afraha Stadium to bow out of the competition.

Elsewhere at Kinoru Stadium, defending champions Tusker edged out National Super League side Palos FC 1-0 to book a ticket to the round 16 of the tournament.

AFC Leopards will also feature in the next round after beating NSL outfit Nairobi Stima 2-0 at Mumias Sports Complex.

Kakamega Homeboyz, Nzoia Sugar, Sofapaka, Bidco United, Vihiga United and Wazito FC have also advanced to the next stage.
