The HSBC Hong Kong sevens will kick off on 7-9 0f April 2017 to mark 42 year of sevens in Hong Kong with 120,000 visitors expected to attend.

The draw for the upcoming HSBC series Ruby sevens is already out and Kenya’s sevens team Shujaa’s have been drawn in pool B alongside South Africa, Canada and France.

The HSBC Hong Kong sevens will kick off on 7-9 0f April 2017 to mark 42 year of sevens in Hong Kong with 120,000 visitors expected to attend.

The world –famous Hong Kong tournament retains its status as the largest on the HSBC sevens worldwide.

Kenya will be walking into the Hong Kong Sevens while standing at number 12 with 40 points after the just concluded USA sevens where they won the Challenge trophy.

According to Shujaas coach Innocent Simiyu they will be focusing on emerging top in their pool despite being in a tough pool.

“The key thing with this pool is that we have to qualify…because the teams that we play are all in the jam…any good performance in any of the two upcoming tours can lift us to the top eight.” Said Innocent Simiyu.

Simiyu added that it was unfortunate that they lost one game while in Las Vegas making them not to qualify.

“We were quite unfortunate in Las Vegas, we only lost one game. We should have been able to qualify, but it’s the nature of the game.” said Simiyu

The Hong Kong sevens will see a total of 28 teams playing across the three days.

The sevens will also feature World Rugby Women’s series Qualifier, where a total of 40 International teams will participate.

The Kenya women sevens team has been place in Pool B alongside Argentina, Hong Kong and Belgium.

The winner of the women’s Qualifiers will be promoted to the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens series in 2017/18.
