January 2018 started with some teasing wet showers. Soon after, the weatherman was proven right in his prediction of nearly extreme heat and sparse rains.
One could even go as far as speculate that a drought may hit Nairobi.
It's just as important to watch your habits during this hot weather and make sure you don't endanger yourself.
The risks that come from too much exposure are heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Here are 4 don'ts you should consider when the weather is really hot.
1. Don't allow yourself to get dehydrated
Make sure you take at least 2 litres of water a day.
Avoid drinks like caffeine or alcohol as they further dehydrate you.
2. Don't eat large meals
Rather than eating a large meal. Eat smaller portions often. This will help your body regulate the amount of energy it uses to break down food. It will help prevent any exhaustion.
3. Don't wear dark coloured clothes
Wear loose-fitting, light-weight and light coloured clothing. Dark heavy clothes absorb sunlight and this puts you at risk of overheating.
4. Don't work continuously in the heat
Take frequent breaks if you're working outdoors.
