Veteran journalist and radio host Eric Latiff has announced his departure from Spice FM after six years of hosting ‘The Situation Room’, a show he helped build from the ground up.

Latiff shared the news on his social media platforms, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the Standard Group and for the support of colleagues and listeners throughout his journey.

Reflecting on a transformative journey

Latiff reminisced about the early days of show which aired its first episode at 6 a.m. on 20th August 2019. With his co-hosts CT Muga, Ndu Okoh, and Njeri Thorne, Latiff embarked on what he described as an uncharted path of delivering four hours of uninterrupted talk during the morning commute.

Switching on the microphones that morning according to Latiff brought a mix of excitement and apprehension.

“Would this work? Would the audience embrace four hours of non-stop talk during their busy morning commute?” he recalled asking himself.

However, the team’s dedication and belief in the format paid off, turning the show into what is now celebrated as ‘Kenya’s Biggest Conversation’.

Latiff credited the success of the show to the collaborative efforts of the entire team, including producer Brian Evusa, Programmes Controller Brian Obara, and Radio General Manager Tom Japanni.

He also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of other producers, marketers, commercial teams, and technical staff.

A heartfelt goodbye

On 6th January 2025, Latiff shared his farewell message, calling his time at Spice FM a privilege and reflecting on his pride in the teams he worked with across radio, TV, and print.

“It has been a great journey building The Situation Room to what it has become... The biggest part of this show has been the audience,” he stated, expressing gratitude to listeners who tuned in across radio, TV, and digital platforms.
