The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is mourning the brutal murder of Aisha Akinyi Abubakar, the Acting County Elections Manager for Kilifi.
Abubakar was killed on the night of 4th January 2025 in a shocking attack that has left the electoral body and her family devastated.
The horrific incident
According to a statement from the IEBC, Abubakar was murdered at her home in Utange, Kisauni Constituency, Mombasa County.
Reports indicate that the assailants also attacked her son, who sustained severe injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.

Expressing his deep sorrow, IEBC Commission Secretary Marjan Hussein Marjan described the incident as a tremendous loss to the institution and the nation.
The IEBC fraternity is saddened by her death and expresses its deepest condolences to Ms Aisha’s family, friends, and colleagues for the tragic loss.
Calls for swift justice
The IEBC has strongly condemned the heinous act and urged law enforcement agencies to expedite investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice.
We call on the country’s security agencies to speedily investigate this heinous occurrence and apprehend her killers.
The Commission also assured Abubakar's family and friends of its unwavering support during this difficult period, vowing to stand by them as they come to terms with the tragedy.
A legacy of dedication and integrity
Aisha Abubakar joined the IEBC in 2012 as a Constituency Elections Coordinator in Nyali and was later deployed to Kilifi South.
Over the years, she rose through the ranks due to her commitment, professionalism, and integrity.
Aisha was a well-trained officer who performed all her duties with utmost honesty, integrity, and dedication.
Her dedication to public service was evident in her diligent work in managing elections and promoting democratic values in the country.
