Tuesday night saw an uproar from members of the public after photos and videos surfaced online showing students from St. Anne’s Girls Secondary School stranded outside the school gates.

The students claimed they were denied entry due to school fees arrears, sparking widespread concern.

Some of the students lamented the situation, noting they had been waiting outside the school premises since morning.

“I have been here since 10:00 am. I have paid only half of the school fees, but I haven’t been allowed to enter,” one student shared.

Another questioned the school’s policy, saying, “They want us to pay the Sh26,000 school fees in full, but why should we be locked out?”

Among the students stranded were those who had travelled long distances, including from Garissa, adding to the frustration.

Makadara MP George Aladwa intervenes

Taking to social media, MP George Aladwa said that after receiving reports of students stranded outside St. Anne's Girls Secondary School, he had immediately sent his team to assess the situation.

He added that he instructed the school management to allow the students inside and confirmed that the matter had been resolved, with all the students now safely in school. He also urged parents to remain calm and avoid further concerns.

I have since instructed the school management to grant access to the students, and I am pleased to confirm that the situation has now been resolved, with all students safely inside the school. Parents are kindly advised to remain patient and refrain from any further concerns at this time.

The incident has reignited public debate on school fees policies and the treatment of students facing financial difficulties.

Many are calling for more compassionate approaches that prioritise students’ right to education over financial constraints.

St. Anne's management has yet to issue an official statement addressing the matter.

This story highlights ongoing challenges in the education sector, particularly as families grapple with economic pressures while striving to secure quality education for their children.
