Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on Monday surprised his party boss, ODM Leader Raila Odinga with a birthday cake accompanied by a touching message of support.
Joho hosted Odinga in his office where he presented a white birthday cake with gold inscription of the words “Happy birthday baba”.
"Happy Birthday Rt. Hon Raila Odinga. I am grateful for the privilege of having studied under your political tutelage. You have taught us courage and resilience in the face of difficult circumstances. May you continue to change the country for the better," Joho later posted on his Twitter account.
The Mombasa Governor was accompanied by local leaders including Mombasa Senator Mohamed Faki, Deputy Governor William Kingi, Likoni MP Mishi Mboko, among others.
Earlier on, Odinga’s personal secretary Dennis Onyango had told the media that the former Prime Minister did not have plans for his birthday unless his friends decided to surprise him.
Mama Ngina Water Front Project
Joho and Odinga later joined President Uhuru Kenyatta at Mama Ngina Drive where they will launch the Mama Ngina water front project.
Located in Mombasa Island, the park borders the Indian Ocean at the Likoni Ferry Channel, and will be upgraded at a cost of Sh1 billion.
The project is being overseen by the national government, through Tourism CS Najib Balala and will see the creation of a water park, an outdoor amphitheater, and a Swahili cultural center.
