Travellers flying to the coastal city of Mombasa will now be able to do so cheaply and quickly after low cost airline, Fly Tristar, said it will now introduce flights on Monday morning and midweek.

“Mombasa is a gateway town, we have cruise ships, international airlines like Condor and Ethiopian Airline, we are here to complement them,” said Fly Tristar Commercial Director Ken Wadhwa.

The airline currently operates flights on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between Wilson and Moi International Airport.

“We have been flying to Mombasa every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Our flight departs on Friday at 1600 hours from Wilson to Mombasa by 1705 hours for a quick turnaround back to Wilson. On Saturday we have an early flight to Mombasa at 0800 hours and back to Nairobi at 0940 hours. On Sunday we also have a late flight that departs Wilson at 1300 hours and leaves Mombasa at 1700 hours back to Wilson," he said.

“Our motivation is to demystify air travel, people perceive it as an extremely expensive affair but we guarantee seats at Sh4,333 one way,”

While at it the airline hopes to take on Kenya’s s multi-billion worth standard Gauge Railway in an epic race between land and air transport.

“It is just Sh1,000 more on a First Class SGR ticket which takes more than four hours to reach Nairobi.”

Tourists’ stakeholders at the coast have welcomed the move anticipating brisk business after slow business occasioned by prolonged elections period in 2017, security fears and and travel advisories by western governments.

“Fly Tristar’s launch of the service is indeed a historic move set to boost the Coast’s tourism industry. Airlines to Mombasa and other coastal towns have changed the way holidaymakers and business people travel,” PrideInn Hotels Managing Director Hasnain Noorani said.

The flights comes against the backdrop of PrideInn Hotels plans to open a 3-star business hotel in Mombasa comprising of 40-rooms and conference facilities that can accommodate up to 500 people.

Increased government support and continued demand for investment-grade property from the expanding middle class and multinationals has influenced the investment.

Apart from Mombasa, Fly Tristar airline also flies to Eldoret, Lodwar and Mandera and charters flights to Malindi, Mara and Ukunda. They plan to venture into Kisumu.
