Mr. Zeyun Yang, through his firm Erdemann Property, said Rier Estate Housing Development, the mixed-use facility, will come equipped with all modern housing facilities, including a shopping complex with 60 outlets, 875 parking slots for tenants, as well as adequate space for children playgrounds.

The project has already received favorable ratings.

Environment Impact Assessment report sent to the National Environment Management Authority recommended implementation saying it will create jobs as well as a skills transfer platform for local workers.

“The proposed project will contribute to significant positive impacts in the area during its construction and operation phases. Creation of employment opportunities, optimal use of land, incorporation of collective waste management practices, increase in revenue to the proponent, national and the county governments among others,” it said.

To fast-track development, the firm has requested for permission to upgrade Jadongo Road to improve access to the property.

Kenya needs to build 244,000 homes every year in order to cut down its housing deficit and stem the growth of sprawling slums. However less than a quarter of the number of houses it needs are ever built per year, according to  the World Bank.

Erdemann Property, which entered Kenya in 2003, has already built about 2,000 housing units and warehouses within Nairobi and Mombasa.

They include Mavokos Great Wall Gardens and Greatwall Apartments One (528 units of two-bedroom flats), Greatwall Apartments Two (384 units of three-bedroom apartments), and Seefar Apartments which houses 264 units of two-bedroom flats and 24 units of three-bedroomed apartments in Mavoko.
