British explorer to resume oilfields operation in Kenya after weeks of standoff with locals
The firm had suspended operations last month over insecurity
This follows weeks of stand-off between the residents of Turkana and the oil firm that saw the firm suspend operations in the area last month.
“The Government has resolved to establish a two-tiered system framework that will provide communities living in Turkana county and Tullow Oil with avenues for addressing any emerging issues and concerns," read a statement from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining.
Some of the issues that the government has promised to solve include insecurity that irked the locals, to an extent of forcing the firm to halt activities in the oil fields.
2,000 oil barrels
“Government of Kenya is committed to foster a harmonious, sustainable, stable and secure operating environment with regard to all operations around the oil, gas and minerals sectors in the Republic of Kenya."
The pilot trucking scheme was launched in June by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The project aims to utilize existing wells in Turkana County to produce 2,000 barrels of oil per day which will be transported to Mombasa by road.
