However, it is important to know there is way more to it than just picking out a cute design and showing up at a tattoo parlor.
Here are a few things to consider first before getting that ink (it is permanent after all):
Consider your placement

Before getting your tattoo, you should consider which part of the body you want it placed.
Keep in mind that some locations on the body can be more painful than others including the feet, elbows, the backs of your knees, groin areas and ribs.
Start small
Most artists recommend starting small if you are new to tattooing. And there is no shame whatsoever in doing so as you give yourself a chance to learn the process, how your skin takes ink, and how your body heals.
Research artists and parlors

Do some proper research on the best artists/palors in town before getting your first piece. Remember you are altering your body for life.
If you have a friend with art that you admire, ask him or her where they got it done and what they thought of the artist
Know your pain tolerance
Everyone has a different pain tolerance, and even small factors can have a huge impact on how comfortable you are.
If you're very sensitive, avoid choosing ribs, backs of knees, elbows, or groin areas for your first tattoo.

Prepare the night before
Get ample rest time the night before in order to prepare the body before your appointment.
Likewise, avoid drinking alcohol because it can thin your blood.
Coffee will also have a similar affect on your blood, while also making it difficult to sit still throughout the appointment.

Do not be afraid to ask the artist your artist any questions during the procedure.
It’s your body, so take control and get all the information.
Bring a friend
If you've got any nerves, don't go alone. You can tag along a friend who's been tattooed before.

The cost of tattoos depends on size and complexity. In most cases, they can cost anything from Sh2,500 to Sh100,000.

Don't Get a Significant Other's Name Tattooed on You
Getting someone's name tattooed on your body forever isn't the best idea. Remember, it's permanent.
You may as well want to have the name of a relative or close friend who just passed tattooed on your body but again think long and hard before making such a decision.

You will have to be diligent about the aftercare, especially for the first two weeks.
After your tattoo has healed, it's important to still keep it moisturized and protected from the sun with sunscreen
