Amherst is widely regarded as one of the very best liberal arts colleges

Amherst College is a private institution in the USA that was founded in 1821.

The Massachusetts-based institution is widely regarded as one of the very best liberal arts colleges in the world, churning out graduates who have excelled in various fields.

Among these crop of graduates includes Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta who attended the college from 1981 to 1985 and graduated with a degree in political science and economics.

Mr Kenyatta joined the political arena in 1986 and took helm of the country's leadership close to three decades later.

He joins a list of three other Amherst alumni who joined politics at an early age and later became heads of government.

Calvin Coolidge

Coolidge attended Amherst College in 1890, graduating with honors in 1895.

He launched his career in politics in 1898 and later became the 30th President of the United States (1923-1929).

George Papandreou

Papandreou attended Amherst where he was a friend and dormitory roommate of future political rival and prime minister of Greece himself, Antonis Samaras.

He graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology in 1975.

The 66-year-old served as Prime Minister of Greece from 2009 to 2011.

Antonis Samaras

Samaras attended a couple of colleges including Amherst where he studied economics e and graduated with a B.A. in 1974.

The Greek politician served as the Prime Minister of Greece from June 2012 to January 2015.
