Drinking too much alcohol could be more of a problem than you realize.
However, drinking too much alcohol could be more of a problem than you realize.
While excessive drinking does not always turn into an addiction, it increases your risk of developing a dependency on alcohol.
So how do you know when too much is enough? Here are five key signs of a potential weekend drinking problem and what to do about it:
You use alcohol to reward yourself
Sometimes you may have several reasons to justify why you deserve to get a drink. For example, finishing an important project at work or making it through a stressful week.
However there are many other ways of rewarding yourself other than downing a couple of bottles. For instance, you can buy a ticket to an event or treat yourself to a nice dinner with friends or work mates.
You feel guilty after drinking too much
Besides nursing a hangover, some people end up feeling guilty the morning after a long night of drinking.
And it has to do with the fact that you cannot shake the feeling of disappointment after binge drinking which can best be defined as a 'moral hangover.'
Well, you can avoid this guilt by sticking to alcohol-free drinks. This allows you to enjoy your weekend without feeling remorseful the following day.
You become aggressive when drinking
Recent studies have found a link between drinking and aggressive or violent actions.
This seeing that a situation which could have been solved when you are sober turns out into a fist fight with someone else owing to the fact that you are intoxicated.
Don’t test your limits – drinking is not worth the risk of lashing out violently or acting aggressively.
You can't stop drinking after one or two bottles
It often happens that you go to the club and vow to only have a bottle or two but end up craving for more drinks as time goes by.
If you’re unable to manage your alcohol consumption on weekends, sometimes the best option is to stop drinking altogether.
