Kenyans spend millions purchasing 4,123 brand new vehicles in 5 months alone

About 4,000 Kenyans walked into showrooms and drove off in brand new machines since the beginning of the year alone, spending tens of millions of shillings in the process.
This is according to the latest data from the Kenya Motor Industry Association (KMA) which shows 4,123 brand new vehicles have been sold locally since the beginning of the year.
Kenyans are among the wealthiest people in Africa and it seems they also love to spend big money on their prized toys.
According to 2017 Africa Wealth Report, Kenya is ranked at position 9 with a wealth per capita of Sh227, 000 ($2,200).
Similarly, according to Knight Frank’s 2018 wealth, the country created 180 new dollar millionaires in 2017, growing the number of persons with a net-worth of over Sh500 million shillings to 1,290.
The KMA data shows in the first five months, two Bentley Bentaygas were sold.
The starting price of such a vehicle with a 6.0 litre engine and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds is $265,000 (Sh27.2 million) and could go further up depending on customisation.
Other brand new luxury vehicles on the enviable list are seven Jaguars and 26 Porsches.
Among the Jaguars are two All-New XF 2.0 GTDi Prestige with a starting price of $89,930 (Sh9.1 million).
One Jaguar E-pace 2.0L Diesel Auto S which costs at least Sh7 million ($70,000) and two Jaguar F-Pace 3.0 R-Sport whose starting price is Sh8.5 million ($85,000) were also bought.
The other two are a Jaguar XE Prestige which commands Sh6.4 million ($64,000) as its starting price and a Jaguar XF 2.2L Diesel Portfolio which retails at Sh8.3 million ($83,000).
Among the Porsches are three Cayenne S which has a starting price of Sh14.4 million ($144,000), 22 Cayenne V6 (Sh9.5 million, $95,000) and one Macan GTS (Sh11.4 million, $114,000).
A Mercedes Benz G63 AMG which has a starting price of Sh23.4 million ($234,000) also made it on the KMA list.
