Here are some of the most exclusive clubs in Nairobi County complete with their respective membership fees.

Karen Country Club

This members only club is one of the oldest golf clubs in Kenya having been founded in 1937.

It is a family oriented club with over 4000 members, 800 being golf members.

The club boosts of an 18 hole championship golf course, driving range and practice facilities, casual & formal dining outlets, squash courts, tennis courts, bowling green, wellness spa,  state of the art fitness center and Swimming pool among others.

Membership is strictly through proposal by two members of the Club; a Proposer and a Seconder who must have been members of the club for a minimum of two years and are of good standing

Once a rigorous membership scrutiny and a balloting process is complete, only then can they join this exclusive club.

To become a full member, one must part with Sh20,000 ($200) as deposit  fee, Sh350,000 ($3500) as entrance fee and additional Sh110,000 ($1100) as golf club entry fee.

Annual subscription fee of Sh50,490 ($504.9) is also mandatory.

Dress code is strictly formal for both ladies and gentlemen and all male candidates and Proposers must wear jackets and ties as if going for a job interview.

Muthaiga Country Club

This private member’s club is exclusive and access is limited to members, their guests and members of reciprocal Clubs.

Facilities available include an 18-hole golf course, practice range bar and dining. 

For one to be a member of this exclusive club one needs to get a Proposer who must be a current member of Muthaiga Golf Club and has held such membership for more than three years.

One must then pay Sh20,000 ($200), upon admission the member will be required to pay an entrance fees of Sh454,000 ($4540), development Levy of Sh30,000 ($300), chit deposit  of Sh20,000 ($200) and equipment levy of Sh36,000 ($360) bringing the total of Sh540,000 ($5400).

Parklands Sports Club

This exclusive sports club is located on Ojijo Road in Parklands, the club is popular with the Kenya’s rising middleclass and young families.

Facilities at the club include accommodation, squash, swimming pool, gym, walking track, meeting rooms, snooker, dining and bar facilities.

To become a full member of this sports club, one must have attained the age of 25yrs and above before paying Sh505,500 ($5055) as entrance/joining fee, pay an annual quarterly subscription fee of Sh6,000 ($60) as well as an annual quarterly sports subscription fee of Sh2500 ($25) as well.

Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club

This exclusive club popular with expatriates working around the Gigiri area was first opened in 1992.

WGH&CC is a 5-star premier resort that operates a hotel and club on the same premises bordering indigenous forests some 20 kms from city centre.

Some of facilities and activities members can indulge in include tennis and squash, cycling, beauty salon, spa and fitness, jogging, swim & steam and bird watching among others.

An Individual golfer must part with Sh690,000 ($6900) as entrance fee and Sh121,000 ($1210) as annual subscriptions fee while a golfing couple will pat away with Sh1,000,000 ($10000) and Sh183,000 ($1830) as entrance and annual subscriptions fee respectively.

Social membership (without golf) costs Sh320,000 ($3200) entry fee and Sh85,000 ($850) annual subscription.

Green fees are Sh10,000 ($100) and Sh7500 ($75) for weekends and weekdays respectively.  

Jockey Club of Kenya

If you a horse racing enthusiast then you should consider joining this club, this is the home of horse racing in Kenya.

Did you know the Ngong racecourse is the only racecourse in East and Central Africa and is ranked amongst the most beautiful racecourses in the world.

It is located along Ngong Road and boost of quality horse racing and golf facilities.

You will be required to pay a total of Sh95,000 ($950) to be a member here, Sh50,000 ($500) joining fees and  Sh45,000 ($450) annual subscription fee.

Some of the privileges members include: entrance to all race meeting, entry to membership facilities to International racecourses, use of the club’s prestigious members lounge, free use of the golf park driving range and course and voting rights at the Club’s AGM and other meetings among others.

And by the way the racing 2017/2018 season is about to start so there is no better time to join Jockey Club than now.

Rotary Club of Nairobi

Rotary club is not just another club – it’s a way of life.

This member’s only club is one of the oldest in the country and in Africa.

It was first established in 1930 and Mayor Udall was elected the first President of the club for the Rotary year 1930-31.

Rotary club is not open for everybody; it is for business men and women who are at least 30 years old.

Membership is by invitation only, a though background search is conducted before one is admitted.

One will be required to pay a joining fee, yearly subscription and cost for weekly lunches at Laico Regency or similar.

Nairobi Club

Situated in the Upper Hill area, Nairobi Club is a private member’s club, owned by its members.

It was established in 1901 and has a membership of over 2,000 drawn from the middle and top level executives and professions in Kenya.

Some of the facilities available include cricket, hockey, bowling, jogging track, gym, library,aerobics and billiards.

Candidates for membership must be proposed and seconded by a full member of at least three years.

To be a member one needs to pay a entrance fee of Sh350,000, ($3500), married full members have have an option to nominate their spouses at no extra cost.

On top of that, one need to also pay an annual subscription fee of Sh31,500 ($315).

Kenya Railway Golf Club

It is situated in the Central Business District of Nairobi, between Uhuru Highway and Lower Hill Road.

This club of about 500 members helps oxygenate and add colour to the business district’s concrete jungle.

It has the distinction of being one of the only golf courses in the world – if not the only one – that has a fully functioning railway line traversing the course, over which golfers must strike their golf balls during a round.

Facilities include bar and restaurant, club house and golf pro shop.

As of 2014, one had to pay an entrance membership fee of Sh120,000 ($1200) and annual subscription fee of Sh30,000 ($300) for Gentlemen.

Ladies have a little bit more friendly rate and only pay a membership fee of Sh80,000 ($800) and annual subscription fee of Sh20,000 ($200).

Nairobi Gymkhana

Situated on Desai Road off Forest Road, this club has the best cricket ground in the country and a few 2003 World Cup matches were played here.

The club has cricket, gym, swimming pool, badminton, squash, lawn tennis, table tennis, hockey facilities.

To be a member one has to part with Sh210,000 ($2100) as an entrance fee and annual subscription fee of Sh11,380 ($113.8).

United Kenya Club

Situated next to University of Nairobi this club is more popular for accommodation, parking and social reasons.

Gym, snooker, library and business centre, conference, grounds for hire, dining and bar facilities are available.

To be member one need to pay Sh120,000 ($1200) and annual subscription fee of Sh15,000 ($150).

Kenya School of Golf Club

The Golf Park is Kenya’s only pay and play golf course, providing the residents of Nairobi with a more affordable golfing experience on the first class playing surface. 

It is located at the Ngong Racecourse, off Ngong road, and it is commonly used as a training ground due to its sizeable practice facilities such as, the driving range, putting green and the famous Golf swing plane.

Corporate companies can sponsor a golf tournament with packages starting from kshs.100,000 ($1000) and onwards.

During such sponsored tournaments, held on Tuesday (Club Night) non member can pay Sh1000 ($10)  while members pay Sh900 ($9) to play.

An individual can pay Sh3000 ($30) to be taught how to swing and hit a golf ball  by professional coach for in the 9Holes course.
