Ghana Bar Association President Anthony Forson denies rape allegations

The Ghana Bar Association President has denied rape allegations levelled against him by Kuukuwa Andam.
Kuukuwa Andam recounted how she was allegedly raped by Mr Forson in a Washington DC hotel.
A statement from his lawyers stated that he believes he will be vindicated in due time.

The President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Anthony Forson Jr., has described as false allegations that he raped a Canada-based lawyer, Kuukuwa Andam.

In a statement from his lawyers, it stated that the allegations levelled against him are palpably false.

“He maintains that the allegations are palpably false and in due course, he will be vindicated.”

“Mr. Forson sincerely and emphatically denies that he has committed any such offence against the said Miss Kuukuwa Andam.”

In a Facebook post, Kuukuwa Andam recounted how she was allegedly raped by Mr Forson in a Washington DC hotel. This has caused some to show empathy while others keep criticising her.

She was pursuing a master’s degree at Cornell University and in a relationship with Mr. Forson when the said incident occurred.

According to her, Mr. Forson raped her after she refused to have sex without a condom.

“Yesterday, I filed a criminal complaint with the Washington DC Police Department against the current President of the Ghana Bar Association for a rape that occurred in the US in December 2012, and the perpetrator was Anthony Forson Jnr who is currently the President of the Ghana Bar Association. The investigation is pending and if the case is cleared, charges will be filed against him,” she began her post.

Ms Andam said this ordeal put a toll on her mental health, revealing that she was hospitalized for psychiatric care.

“I was put on anti-depressants which I had to swallow for years because of what Tony did to me. 4 years later in 2016, I would attempt to commit suicide again this time at Queen’s University because I still could not get over what Tony did to me.”

Ms Andam said she has lodged a formal criminal police complaint against Mr Forson in Washington DC, USA, for the rape incident, which the victim said occurred at a hotel in the city in 2012.

Kuukuwa Andam also alleged that she was raped by her former boss, Selasi Kofi Fumey, who was then the Acting Deputy Director of Legal Aid Ghana when she was a National Service Person.
