8 sperm killers every man should know

Did you know that wet heat isn’t good for the testes?

Though men produce millions of sperm a day, external factors listed below are likely to affect the health of the sperms.

  • Toxic Preservatives

Parabens used are used in many cosmetics, cleaners, and even some processed foods have been linked to breast cancer, but also abnormal genetic changes in the sperm of male mice fed parabens.

  • Canned food

Always choose fresh foods instead of canned products whenever possible.

Many researchers believe the biggest source of BPA contamination comes through food packaging. Metallic cans are coated with a BPA resin, which migrates into the food. Acidic canned products, such as tomato paste or sauces, are particularly saturated with BPA.

  • Bacon

Couples who are trying to conceive should avoid adding bacon to their diet especially the men. The sperms are more likely to be misshaped and puny. Add seafood including salmon and sardines to your diet to ensure the production of healthier sperm quality.

  • Hot tubs

According to a study published in 2007, even 30 minutes in a Jacuzzi or hot tub can temporarily decrease sperm production.

However, this study also showed that the negative effects of wet heat on sperm may be reversible.

  • Cell phones

The advice about cell phones in proximity to a man’s reproductive organs varies.

A 2008 study found that men with the highest cell phone usage (more than four hours per day) had significantly lower sperm counts, motility rates, and morphology (normal shapes).  Men are advised to carry their phones in their briefcases rather than pockets in order to limit radiation exposure.

  • Briefs

According to a study, if underpants hold your scrotum close to your body, it makes your testicles too warm, creating a hostile environment for sperm production.

  • Sex toys

Avoid dildos, vibrators, and male pleasure devices made of vinyl. This type of plastic unleashes phthalates, plastic-softening chemicals linked to cancer, allergies, birth defects, and infertility.

  • Unhealthy lifestyle

Men who eat junk foods, smokes and drink alcohol are unable to produce healthy sperms.  Alcohol damages the liver, men who drink a lot can have higher levels of estrogen, which in turn will stop sperm from being produced.
