The interpreter’s main duty is to make it easier for the elders to understand the current affairs and political issues in their local dialect that they  understand better.

Every day, the young men are tasked with the work of interpreting to the elders’ current affairs and political issues in their local dialect of ‘Dholuo” so that they can understand better.

According to the interpreter Charles Juma, he goes to Migori town everyday to purchase the dailies, after which he reads before he prepares himself for the tough task.

The 40 year- old who has been doing the job for the last five years reports to the meeting carrying major dailies which he peruses  as he tackles  some  issues  raised by the  elders.

The elders who have organized themselves in a group registered as Namba Abila always meet at a make shift structure, 3 kilometers  off Migori town everyday at 4pm.

The recent controversial deportation of lawyer Miguna Miguna to Canada has also found its way to their daily news briefing and discussed at length to the elderly citizens satisfaction.

The dailies are bought by the money contributed by the members themselves out of whom Mr. Juma also gets something to take home at the end of the day.

A part from being informed about current affairs, the group also has a merry go round where they contribute 500 shillings every Friday.
