A power blackout in Kenya left its citizens in darkness and they 'lit up' Twitter with some hilarious memes

Kenyans were plunged into darkness for the better part of Tuesday evening after most parts of the country experienced a widespread power blackout.

“A technical hitch emanating from our transmission system has led to loss of electricity to parts of the country this evening,” electricity supplier Kenya Power said in a statement.

The outage affected most parts of Kenya's capital Nairobi and its central, western and coastal regions. Many traders countrywide were forced to close their businesses early due to the blackout.

And while all this happened, Kenyans had a field on social media as they 'lit up' Twitter with some witty memes. Enjoy some of them below:

The utility firm had however restored power in most parts of the country by Wednesday morning including Mt. Kenya, Central Rift, North Rift, Western, Nyanza and Coast regions.
