A Kenyan publisher has disowned the image of a mislabelled body parts figure that had triggered an online uproar

The publishing firm added that none of the 50,000 copies it published had such errors.

The East African Educational Publishers on Friday dismissed the photo as fake adding that none of the 50,000 copies it published had such errors.

“We have adopted a multifaceted approach in fighting piracy. We have been running a spirited sensitization campaign to alert as well as caution customers about counterfeit books,” said the company chief executive Kiarie Kamau.

The publishing firm said the fake image shows purported page 107 of its book that contains a mislabelled body parts figure

Kenyans on social media took issue with the photo with one Twitter user wondering how the book passed inspection standards in the first place.

Mr Kamau however stated that the 50,000 copies of the book were published under the competency-based curriculum pilot programme and asked all parents to ensure that they buy books from recognised distributors.

He asked the police to expedite investigations to nab the culprits behind the counterfeit image or book.
