Kenya sniffer dogs cause a stir online after failing to detect illicit goods

Something was a miss during the sniffing exercise

The dogs, from the Kenya Revenue Authority's K-9 dog unit, couldn't sniff for illicit goods at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

KRA officials blamed the blunder on the animals' "young age" and other factors.

The failed tests drew sharp reactions from social media seeing that it costs the taxpayer at least Sh60,000 ($600) a month to feed the sniffer dogs.

A section of Kenyans, on the other hand, mocked the botched exercise:
