The form three student from Muhoho High School was suspended on Thursday and ordered to come back with 1,000 loaves of bread as punishment.
However, an education official intervened to make sure the student was allowed back to school, without having to buy any loaf of bread.
Kiambu County Education Director, Ali Abdikadir, directed the school's administration to follow proper disciplinary measures against the student as laid down in the rules and regulations governing students in schools.
He further urged the institution to take the learner through guiding and counselling so he can shun bad behaviour.
The suspension letter, that went viral on social media, caused an uproar among Kenyans who termed the punishment too harsh. The student's parents would have forked out about 50,000 Kenyan shillings ($493) to buy the 1,000 loaves.
