Kenyans livid after wildlife agency officers gun down a hippo that killed a Chinese tourist

The hippo was gunned down by KWS officers on Sunday evening

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers gunned down the animal near Sopa Lodge, Naivasha on Sunday evening.

The hippo allegedly struck the Chinese national, identified as Chang Ming Chuang, as he was taking pictures on the shores of Lake Naivasha in Nakuru County.

Kenyans said the killing of the hippo was unwarranted and accused KWS of 'acting ireesponsibly.'

Likewise, stakeholders around Lake Naivasha accused the government agency of ‘acting’ whenever a foreigner was attacked and failing to respond when a local faced similar attacks.

A KWS officer defended the move saying: "The animal was aggressive and could kill another person."
